Trees for Change - Pilot Planting - April 2006
Between the 18th and 23rd April 2006, 45,000 native species trees were planted in the Trees for Change Pilot Planting Area in British Columbia, Canada. The seedlings, a mixture of Interior Douglas-fir, White Spruce and Lodgepole Pine, were grown in a local tree nursery for about 6 months from locally collected seed, then refrigerated so they would be ready for planting in the spring.
The purpose of doing Pilot Planting first is to test out different aspects of the project, such as Baseline Carbon Monitoring and Land Preparation. What we learn now will help us to prepare and carry out the main project planting in 2007 and 2008.
